Microsoft
The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of the West Indies continues to enjoy meaningful linkages with Microsoft Trinidad and Tobago (http://www.microsoft.com/westindies/trinidad_tobago/) through a variety of means. Chief among these is industrial as well as graduate advice provided by various Microsoft Trinidad staff as inputs to the Department’s ongoing curriculum development. Microsoft Trinidad and Tobago is also a repeat sponsor of the Faculty’s annual prize for the top student in the Department’s Computer Systems Engineering Group.
Our students have participated in Microsoft’s Global Imagine Cup Competition, in 2009 advancing to the Semi Final round. For the 2010 cycle, Microsoft Trinidad and Tobago is pleased to sponsor for the first time a local Imagine Cup final that will guarantee a place at the international finals for a local team. The theme for this year is “Imagine a world where technology helps solve the toughest problems facing us today.”
Competitors are encouraged to focus on challenges that face us as a country or even our region (Caricom territory).
How to Get Started:
- Details of the competition are in the attached file “Software Design Guidelines”.
- Highly successful teams of the past consisted of four students and had a lecturer /tutor assigned to the team as a mentor.
- To facilitate the examination period, the deadline for registering has been extended to the 22nd January, 2010.
- The template for the Blueprints document is attached and must be submitted by the 22nd Janaury,2010.
- Microsoft is willing to assist by running campaigns if necessary and assisting within the rules of the competition.
