Undergraduate Studies
A single Undergraduate programme, the Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Electrical and Computer Engineering, is offered through the Department. The BSc programme is delivered face to face, through a mix of classroom and laboratory instruction, with substantial online support.
The overall aim of the Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Electrical & Computer Engineering is to empower its students to become competent, bold, articulate graduates whose professional aspirations and values resonate with thematically localized institutional aims and objectives. The Department effects this empowerment through the development of knowledge, skills and attitudes required to:
- Function effectively in industry
- Undertake advanced studies in the discipline
- Conduct relevant and innovative research and development
- Contribute to the social, economic and intellectual growth of the Caribbean region
Through a mix of core and elective courses as well as Departmental practices and culture, the Objectives of the BSc programme are to:
- Develop knowledge and skills in areas fundamental to engineering
- Provide an enabling environment for students to apply their skills and knowledge in the development of a range of engineering solutions on campus, in industry and in local communities
- Nurture curiosity and a keen interest in exploring innovative approaches to problem solving
- Develop a variety of knowledge, skills and sensitivities essential for professional engineering practice
- Build a strong sense of the social, economic and environmental consciousness that underpins the engineering profession
- Provide opportunities for students to develop basic life-long skills including reasoning, problem solving, self-expression, teamwork, personal management skills and independent study.
The UWI BSc in Electrical and Computer Engineering has been accredited by the Institution of Electrical Engineers / The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IEE/IET) of the U.K., without break, for over ten years.
