Practical Work

As Electrical and Computer Engineering is an applied science, practical work including laboratory exercises and projects are central to the undergraduate curriculum. The Department hosts the following laboratories: Microprocessor, Control Systems, Electronics, Energy Systems, Power Simulation, Special Projects, Pan Research, Shared Computer and Year 1.

The Engineering Practice stream in the Department caters to all levels of the degree programme through the following courses:

Level 1 ECNG 1012 - Engineering Science & Technology
ECNG 1006 - Laboratory & Project Design I
Level 2 ECNG 2004 - Laboratory & Project Design II
ECNG 2005 - Laboratory & Project Design III
Level 3 ECNG 3020 - Special Project

These courses are mandatory to all ECNG students and service many of the theory courses. A number of other theory based courses such as Communications I and Controls include additional laboratory components. Here are examples of the practical work undertaken in the undergraduate programme:
